Vallyr raiders burn the Scourge’s convoys, carry off their people, and vanish back across the sea. As long as Mors dal Ventrix, Patriarch of the Vallyrian Collective, can strike at will, nothing Slate rebuilds will last.

So the Scourge will cross the water. The Ignatum Empire will lend its ships, for a share of whatever Slate takes. Every soldier he brings leaves Bastion’s borders thinner.

Mors knows he’s coming. Behind the harbor walls wait the Shardbound, royal guards who heal by feeding on their enemies, and a siege construct that tears the souls from the living.

To break the Collective, Slate will need more than an army. Lucidus offers him a crown, and a body strong enough to wear it.
